Best Boston Hotels for Thanksgiving Weekend 2026: Where to Stay Without a Car
Stay near TD Garden, Beacon Hill, Back Bay, the North End or the Seaport and spend Thanksgiving weekend walking Boston instead of sitting in traffic
Best Boston Hotels for Thanksgiving Weekend 2026: Where to Stay Without a Car
There are cities where choosing a hotel is mostly about the room.
Boston is not one of them.
In Boston, where you stay can completely change the trip.
Choose the right neighborhood for Thanksgiving weekend and you can walk out the hotel door in the morning, cross Boston Common, wander Beacon Hill, eat in the North End, shop Back Bay, catch a Bruins or Celtics game, walk the waterfront and come home at night without ever touching a steering wheel.
Choose badly, and you may spend a ridiculous amount of your holiday moving a car, paying to park it and wondering why you brought it in the first place.
For Thanksgiving weekend 2026 — Thursday, November 26 through Sunday, November 29 — I would strongly consider staying in central Boston and leaving the car parked.
Here are the neighborhoods and hotels I would look at first.
First: Do You Need a Car in Boston for Thanksgiving Weekend?
Probably not.
If most of your plans involve downtown Boston, Beacon Hill, Back Bay, the North End, TD Garden, the waterfront or the Seaport, Boston is one of the easiest major American cities to visit largely on foot.
The MBTA fills in the gaps, and rideshare is available when your feet have had enough.
More importantly, Thanksgiving weekend is not the time I would voluntarily add Boston parking to my list of holiday responsibilities.
A centrally located hotel may cost more per night, but compare that with parking fees, garage hopping and the time you lose driving back and forth.
Sometimes the more expensive room is actually the simpler — and possibly less expensive — trip.

Best Hotel for TD Garden: Courtyard Boston Downtown/North Station
If the Bruins, Celtics or another TD Garden event is part of your Thanksgiving weekend, location does not get much simpler than Courtyard by Marriott Boston Downtown/North Station.
It sits essentially across from TD Garden and North Station. TD Garden itself identifies it as the preferred hotel of the Boston Bruins and TD Garden. TD Garden
But the location works for much more than a game.
From here you can walk into the North End, reach the Freedom Trail, head toward Faneuil Hall and the waterfront, or walk through Government Center toward Boston Common.
That means the hotel works especially well for a family building a weekend around sports without wanting the rest of Boston to require a car.
Best for: Bruins and Celtics fans, families attending a game, short stays and anyone who values convenience over romantic Boston atmosphere.
Another Great TD Garden Choice: citizenM Boston North Station
For something more modern and compact, citizenM Boston North Station is built directly into the Hub on Causeway complex beside North Station and TD Garden.
The rooms are deliberately small, while the shared spaces are larger and more social.
That makes it particularly attractive for couples, solo travelers and people who intend to spend most of Thanksgiving weekend exploring Boston rather than sitting in their hotel room.
Best for: Couples, solo travelers, game weekends and visitors who want to be almost impossibly close to TD Garden.
Best for Beacon Hill: The Whitney Hotel Boston
Beacon Hill is the Boston many visitors have pictured before they arrive.
Brick sidewalks. Gas lamps. Charles Street. Brownstones. Boston Common just down the hill.
The Whitney Hotel Boston sits on Charles Street at the edge of Beacon Hill, giving you one of the prettiest home bases in the city.
From here you can walk through Beacon Hill, cross Boston Common and the Public Garden, reach downtown, or head toward the Charles River Esplanade. Guests consistently point to the hotel's walkability as one of its major strengths. Beacon Hill Hotel
Thanksgiving weekend is exactly when this part of Boston begins shifting from late fall into Christmas.
If atmosphere matters as much as logistics, Beacon Hill is difficult to beat.
Best for: Couples, first-time Boston visitors, romantic weekends and people who want classic Boston outside their door.
Beacon Hill Splurge: XV Beacon
For a higher-end stay, XV Beacon puts you on Beacon Street just above Boston Common.
This is a small luxury hotel rather than a giant convention property, which changes the feeling immediately.
You are within walking distance of Beacon Hill, the Common, Government Center, the Freedom Trail, Downtown Crossing and much of the historic center of Boston.
This is the Thanksgiving hotel I would consider if the trip itself is the gift.
Best for: Luxury travelers, couples, anniversaries and special Thanksgiving weekends.
Best All-Around Neighborhood: Back Bay
If someone asked me where to stay in Boston for the first time and gave me no other information, Back Bay would be near the top of my list.
You have Newbury Street, Copley Square, the Boston Public Library, the Public Garden, restaurants, shopping and multiple transit options within an easy walk.
And unlike Beacon Hill, much of Back Bay is flatter and easier to navigate with luggage, strollers or mobility limitations.
That matters.
Boston's oldest neighborhoods are beautiful, but brick sidewalks, hills, narrow streets and historic buildings are not equally comfortable for every traveler. Back Bay and the Seaport generally offer easier terrain and more modern hotel infrastructure. Boston Tourism Guide
Classic Back Bay: The Lenox Hotel
The Lenox Hotel is at Boylston and Exeter, right in the middle of Back Bay.
That puts Newbury Street, Copley Square and the Boston Public Library practically outside your door, while the Public Garden and Boston Common remain walkable.
The Lenox feels more like old Boston than some of the newer towers nearby, which makes it a particularly nice Thanksgiving choice.
Best for: First-time visitors, couples, shoppers and people who want one hotel that works for almost everything.
Best Luxury Location: Four Seasons Hotel Boston
If budget is secondary to location, Four Seasons Hotel Boston has one of the best addresses in the city.
It sits directly across from the Public Garden, beside Boston Common and at the beginning of Back Bay.
That means you can walk one direction into Beacon Hill and historic downtown and the other into Newbury Street and Copley Square.
For a family Thanksgiving trip where grandparents, parents and children may all have different ideas about what to do, that central location has real value.
Best for: Luxury family trips, multigenerational Thanksgiving weekends and travelers who want an exceptionally central location.
Best for the North End and Waterfront: Boston Marriott Long Wharf
There are relatively few conventional hotels right inside the narrow residential streets of the North End.
That is not necessarily a disadvantage.
The better strategy can be to stay immediately beside it.
Boston Marriott Long Wharf sits on the harbor next to the New England Aquarium and just a short walk from Faneuil Hall, Quincy Market, the Freedom Trail and the North End. Marriott
For families, Boston Marriott Long Wharf is particularly useful because the Aquarium is next door and the property has an indoor pool. Marriott also promotes connecting rooms and family-oriented packages. Marriott
It is also one of the better locations for simply walking out the door and deciding what to do next.
North End?
Go left.
Harbor?
You're already there.
Faneuil Hall?
A few minutes away.
Freedom Trail?
Take your pick.
Best for: Families, first-time visitors, North End lovers and people who want history and the harbor in the same trip.
Waterfront Splurge: Boston Harbor Hotel
If your mental picture of Thanksgiving in Boston includes looking out over Boston Harbor, Boston Harbor Hotel is the obvious splurge.
The hotel sits directly at Rowes Wharf and combines waterfront views with a location that remains very walkable to downtown attractions.
It is also especially relevant this Thanksgiving because the hotel is offering its own Thanksgiving dining experiences, meaning you could conceivably check in, have Thanksgiving dinner and never worry about transportation at all.
That is not a bad way to do a holiday.
Best for: Special occasions, waterfront lovers, couples and travelers who want Thanksgiving dinner and their hotel in the same place.
Best Seaport Hotel: Seaport Hotel Boston
Boston's Seaport is very different from Beacon Hill.
That is part of the appeal.
Instead of tiny historic streets, you get wider sidewalks, newer buildings, harbor views, restaurants and relatively easy access to Logan Airport.
Seaport Hotel Boston sits beside the Harborwalk and close to the restaurants and attractions of the Seaport. The hotel also has an indoor pool, which can become surprisingly important when traveling with children on a cold November weekend. Seaport Boston
The Silver Line provides an especially useful connection between the Seaport and Logan Airport.
Best for: Families, airport convenience, harbor walks and travelers who prefer newer hotels and wider sidewalks.
Seaport Splurge: Omni Boston Hotel at the Seaport
Omni Boston Hotel at the Seaport is another strong choice if you want to make the hotel part of the weekend rather than simply a place to sleep.
It is a large, modern property with multiple dining options and substantial amenities.
This would be especially attractive for a family or group that wants enough happening inside the hotel that nobody has to venture far if Boston gives us one of those cold, wet November days.
And Boston absolutely can.
Best for: Families, groups, luxury-minded Seaport visitors and people who appreciate having restaurants and amenities under one roof.
Best Boston Hotel for Families
If I were choosing strictly for a family Thanksgiving weekend, Boston Marriott Long Wharf would be very high on my list.
The Aquarium next door is a major advantage. The North End and Faneuil Hall are nearby. There is an indoor pool. The waterfront is right outside.
And children tend to tolerate walking much better when there is something interesting around every corner.
The Seaport Hotel is another strong family option, particularly if you prefer newer surroundings and easy airport access.
For a family attending a Bruins or Celtics game, however, I would switch the answer completely and choose the Courtyard at North Station.
The best Boston hotel is not necessarily the fanciest one.
It is the one that eliminates the most unnecessary transportation from your weekend.
Best Boston Hotel for Luxury
Boston has no shortage of very expensive hotel rooms.
For Thanksgiving weekend, though, I would pay particular attention to location along with luxury.
Four Seasons Hotel Boston gives you the Public Garden outside the door.
XV Beacon gives you intimate Beacon Hill.
Boston Harbor Hotel gives you the water.
Choose the version of Boston you want to wake up to.
So Where Would I Stay Without a Car?
For the broadest possible Boston weekend, I would choose Back Bay, Beacon Hill or the downtown waterfront.
Those locations put an enormous amount of Boston within walking distance while still giving you public transportation when you want to go farther.
For sports, choose North Station/TD Garden.
For a newer neighborhood, airport access and modern hotels, choose the Seaport.
For old Boston atmosphere, choose Beacon Hill.
For shopping, restaurants and a very forgiving first-time-visitor location, choose Back Bay.
For history, the Aquarium and the North End, choose the waterfront around Long Wharf.
That is the real trick to booking Boston.
Don't begin with the hotel.
Begin with the Boston weekend you want to have.
Then put yourself in the middle of it.
